I recently traveled through the Carson National Forest and the area around it. There were large stretches of land that were totally scorched by the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Wildfire; this was my inspiration to create a piece touching on the conservation of forest land. While there, I also encountered a mule deer from a distance; their population has been recently decreasing, which motivated me to also incorporate it into my work. I took several photographs of the deer with my phone. Nearby, I also took several photos of the snowy landscape and woods. I selected a photograph of the deer and in GIMP, I superimposed it on a selected photo I took of the landscape. I made further modifications and adjustments in GIMP.
